The Titan rugged cellphone is a gadget that Bear Grylls would be proud of.
This orange phone comes equipped with a variety of outdoor features that make the adventuring an easy endeavour. You can submerge the phone in water to a depth of one metre for 30 minutes, which makes it good for kayaking and other water-based activities. Otherwise, you can always dunk it in your beer at the local pub for an awesome party trick.
The Titan is shock resistant, dust proof and U.S military tested. It also comes with all the comforts of other smart phones as well as a IP-67 rating, which is one of the toughest ratings that can be awarded to a smart phone.
With a 3.5 inch touch screen and Android operating system you have access to 450 000 apps giving other smart phones tough competition. The Titan comes with built in outdoor features which are incredibly useful for travelling and activities like hiking, trail running and biking. It features a compass, GPS, built-in barometer, flashlight, pedometer and great weather station.
The phone’s speakers have great volume too, so you don’t need a docking station to take your music with you. Naturally, it boasts a camera of 5 mp (equivalent to the iPad mini) with video and zoom. It takes good shots too.
The phone is a bit of bulky package, which is my only concern for everyday use and getting your sim card in is a pain because you have to screw off the cover. However, this aspect does maintain its waterproofing feature.
This is a phone you take anywhere with you and comes with a variety of nifty features. It’s pretty much awesome.
Costs R3 192 for a 800mhz version and will be followed by a 1ghz version to be released in July. For more info visit www.ruggedphones.co.za
