Following the intense public outcry after the report that a speeding delivery vehicle was charged only R2 500 for killing seven impala in the Kruger National Park, SANparks released a statement explaining a further penalty and banishment from the park.
The statement reads that a further penalty of R21 000 was imposed on Kgokole Mmakole Trading & Projects CC, who sub-contracted Shivers Contractors and whose driver slammed over the seven impala. The charge was failure to comply with the park’s Code of Conduct. The driver in question is also charged with a five year ban from the Kruger National Park, meaning that he can’t enter the park at all, no matter the reason.
The Managing Executive of the KNP, Mr Abe Sibiya said that he is “completely saddened by this incident and would like to warn all contractors, suppliers, staff members and guests to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of the Park. Otherwise, severe action shall be taken against any perpetrator without exception. People cannot be allowed to continue to disobey the rules and go unpunished.”
