The World Travel Market (WTM) is a global travel-industry event that brings thousands of travel-trade exhibitors through its doors annually. Euromonitor International is a partner of WTM, and its Head of Travel and Tourism Research, Caroline Bremner, says destinations such as China are poised to perform well in inbound and outbound tourism, and that China is predicted to become the leading travel destination worldwide by 2030.
Popular tourist attractions such as the Great Wall of China in Beijing, Victoria Harbour near Hong Kong and the Yellow Mountains in Haungshan have contributed to getting this country on the world’s top destinations list for the year 2030. Euromonitor International’s Megatrends Shaping the Future of Travel report estimated that China will have 127-million travellers visiting it each year by the end of the next decade.
Tourism remains one of the pillars of the Chinese economy, and in 2017 China launched an ‘all-for-one’ tourism programme that focuses on conservation, diversity of cultures and environmental sustainability. The programme was introduced to encourage local governments to merge tourism resources to improve the service quality of the industry.
