Royal Caribbean Cruises is looking for someone to join its team in the role of ‘Shore Explorer’ – a position it is advertising in which the chosen candidate will essentially work as an Instagram ‘apprentice’. The role will be given to the applicant who submits the best travel story, which needs to be shared with the cruise line via Instagram. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to experience the company’s shore excursions, all while documenting the entire experience on Instagram via photos, Insta-stories and videos. The position however is only open to UK and Ireland applicants, for more information about the terms and conditions, read here.
The job will span over three weeks during the Northern Hemisphere summer. The Shore Explorer will be paid £2,000 (about R35,000) per week on top of getting to see the world for free. Royal Caribbean has said the successful applicant should be ‘an adrenaline junkie’ who ‘has a unique ability to capture a moment and tell a story in a simple social media post’.
Applicants have to be over the age of 21, have a valid passport and be able to travel this year. The person chosen for the role will be flying between destinations and travelling alone. The application for the job is open until 1 March 2019.

Never too cool for the pool. All new #NavigatoroftheSeas, coming this spring.
The Shore Explorer will visit Osaka in Japan, Dubai, Norway, and many other countries. Each visit will include an exciting activity that the cruise line offers to passengers – think the world’s longest zipline and white water rafting, for a start. Being some of the first guests to visit the Royal Caribbean’s new private island is also part of the itinerary.
Instagram has become a huge social media platform for promoting businesses of all types. Being able to create adverts, sponsored content and commissioning influential accounts to promote a brand through such an easy platform has become an increasingly popular way to create brand awareness. Managing director of Royal Caribbean International UK and Ireland, Ben Boulding, said, ‘With Instagram it’s not just a content platform anymore, but an area of inspiration and influence, especially for the next generation of travellers. This is a once-in-a-lifetime role.’
