The first of this month has brought with it all kinds of interesting, odd and unexpected headlines, some that sound almost real enough to be true. Here are some of our favourite travel-related April Fool’s jokes of 2019:
1. New 100mph (160kph) zipline linking Wales and England to open on top of Severn Bridge

2. British Transport police announce new £2,000 fines for eating smelly snacks on trains
Fed up of having to endure stinky sandwiches and smelly snacks on trains?
As part of new anti-social behaviour legislation, those caught eating offensive food items while in transit could face a penalty fare of up to £2,000.

3. Travelodge Hotels announces new Bedshare Service
4. Jetstar flights to Laerton Island
Jetstar announced flights to Tasmania’s Laerton Island (‘not real’ backwards’). The Australian airline announced that it was ‘excited to add a third Tasmanian destination to our network and with activities including rock climbing, hang gliding and world-class hiking routes taking in pristine beaches, lush valleys and alpine lakes, we anticipate Laerton Island to be very popular with adventure travellers and nature lovers.’ The new route, however, was to a ficticious island.
5. Koala joeys born with leopard print fur
It’s a little-known fact that some #koala joeys are born with leopard print fur 🐨
We don’t yet know why only certain joeys are blessed with such incredible fashion sense, but we’re sure little April here is the envy of her friends. #seeaustralia #wildlife #australia pic.twitter.com/FJUDwdRk9E
