Travellers aboard a plane destined for Mexico were pleasantly surprised by an impromptu performance from a South African choir that happened to be on board when the plane was grounded in Johannesburg due to poor weather conditions.
The choir took it upon themselves to cheer up the anxious passengers and burst into song, making the wait that much more bearable. One of the travellers on board, Kristoffer Greyling, managed to capture the performance on video and shared it on Facebook.
‘So we are stuck on the runway for over an hour and a half, having to refuel and await a decision as to which route to fly (or something) because winds keep changing (I honestly don’t know what’s happening)… and then this happens! This choir has been an absolute blessing. I freaking love my country!!! So beautiful. I am so touched. #proudlysouthafrican,’ said Greyling.
The amazing group of singers were members of the Ndlovu Youth Choir, which is made up on a group of youths from the rural village Moutse in Limpopo.
The group was originally founded in 1994 by Dutch doctor Dr. Hugo Templeman. The Ndlovu Care Group, which lies at the root of the choir, provides innovative healthcare, childcare, education, and community development to those in need.
Since its formation, the choir has profoundly affected the lives of many with their lively music while carrying the message that anyone can achieve great things regardless of their background, education or place of birth.
The choir was on their way to share their music and message on an international stage and ended up also sharing it in a memorable way with the unsuspecting audience of plane passengers.
