The global Adidas movement Run For The Oceans got underway in Cape Town and Johannesburg on World Oceans Day, Saturday 8 June.
Over 200 runners and walkers in Cape Town chose between doing a 5km or 8km route from St James to Muizenberg and back, while close to 50 runners and walkers in Johannesburg completed a 5km at Robyn Park.
Participants in the events included Adidas staff members and their families, athletes such as Bryan Habana, Damian Willemse, Notshe Sikhumbuzo, Salmaan Moeratand, Laura Wolvaardt, and the Adidas Runners community.
The events were held in partnership with Hanli Prinsloo’s foundation I Am Water, as well as The Beach Co-Op.
In Cape Town, the I Am Water team hosted ocean experience workshops for the children.
A total of 62 kg of litter was collected in Cape Town and 240 kg in Johannesburg.
Run For The Oceans is a global movement that takes place from 8–16 June.
For every kilometre tracked in the Run For The Oceans Challenge on the Runtastic app, Adidas donates $1 to Parley Ocean School capped at $1.5 million.
