Smart-luggage travel brand, Horizn Studios, has conceptualised a luggage range designed exclusively for commercial space travel. As this future becomes more certain, the Berlin-based company sought to become pioneers in this new travel industry, and even enlisted the help of a budding young astronaut along the way.
One of its latest luggage design ventures, the Horizn M5 NASA Edition, is a suitcase designed by astronaut-in-training, Alysson Carson. Carson is 18 years old and soon to be the youngest astronaut in history. In honour of her future, the future of space travel and in celebrating 50 years since the moon landing in 1969, Carson was asked to help design a limited edition luggage range for Nasa.
The limited edition suitcase co-designed with the young Carson consists of an aerospace-grade, German polyurethane hardshell with vacchetta leather finishes and a commemorative moon landing luggage tag. The M5 NASA Edition also has a removable 10,000-mAh removable smart-charger. This limited edition, futuristic suitcase will set you back €700 (just under R11,000).
The company is really serious about space travel, however, and the sleek Horizn ONE range is very much geared towards private and commercial space travel luggage of the future.
Some features include a vacuum function which minimises space during transit, as well as a silver-ion enhanced compartment with a ‘bacteriostatic’ function which neutralises germs and odours on travellers’ clothing. The Horizn ONE has an electromagnetic base which will secure it to surfaces (walls, floors) in the absence of gravity.
