Designed to be equal parts ‘welcoming and energetic’, Thailand has a new skybar and restaurant which is now the highest in the country.
The Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar, with design that combines French elegance and Thai-inspired patterns, opened in July and sits on the 76th and 77th floors of the 314m-high King Power Mahanakhon skyscraper.
Described as a ‘modern brasserie’, the menu has an international mix of western and Asian dishes, complimented by an abundance of classic cocktails and over 100 curated wines.
An outdoor terrace surrounds guests in lots of greenery to ‘evoke the feeling of a forest in the sky’, says the official press release.
A visit to the restaurant was decribed on Trip Advisor by a tourist visiting from the Netherlands as follows: ‘After friendly welcome at the reception and bypassing the queue for the visitors of the Skybar and SkyWalk, we could immediately take the elevator to the restaurant. We had some nice cocktails before dinner and enjoyed the spectacular views and nice sunset.
‘Menu is western with few Thai influences, and is certainly a pleasure for meat lovers. We had great Normandy oysters with shrimp and banana flower salad as starter. As mains we had the sea bass, which easily serves three people, and combines very well with the herb salad. Quality of the food is good and not too expensive. Combined with the stunning views it is a great experience.
‘The restaurant is on the 75th floor, just below the sky bar, on the roof of the building. The staff will give you a free pass if you like to visit the sky bar and skyWalk on the roof of building, which normally costs you the 700 baht’ (about R320).
The SkyBar is open daily for dinner and drinks from 5pm to 1am.
Marc Begassat, Managing Director of King Power Mahanakhon, said, ‘Following the successful launch of Thailand’s highest observation deck last November, it is a pleasure to announce the opening of Mahanakhon Bangkok SkyBar, Thailand’s highest restaurant and bar.’
