An attempt to make people laugh has backfired for the City Lodge Hotel Group after it received complaints from people who didn’t see the funny side.
The hotel group (Courtyard, City Lodge, Town Lodge, Road Lodge) labelled some of its mini hand-sanitizer bottles with ‘Stolen from Town Lodge’ for example, to poke fun at the common practice of guests taking toiletry bottles from hotels home.
Despite a few people who were offended, there were those who received the joke as it was intended and thought it quite humorous, sharing photos and comments on their Twitter feeds.
Guys, my colleague took this from her room and after reading closely, she feels bad and wants to return it. I CAN’T STOP LAUGHING🤣🤣🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/6xPiYAJ52Z

‘CLHG was trying to be humorous, but unfortunately, some customers took it literally,’ a spokesperson told Business Insider. Due to a ‘few’ complaints, the hotel chain has decided to phase out these tongue-in-cheek bottles.
The hand sanitizer in this hotel says “Stolen from City Lodge” on it 😭🤣😂
I usually don’t take toiletries from hotel rooms, but this time, I have to! 😂 pic.twitter.com/uB3ZTL5MYv
