A man on holiday with his family in the Eastern Cape discovered human remains while walking along Boknes beach on Sunday.
‘He came across, what he initially thought was a round stone and started to dig around and discovered that it was the skull of a human being,’ said Captain Mali Govender, SAPS spokesperson in a statement.
The police who were called found more remains when they arrived at the site. The bones have been retrieved and are being sent to the Department of Health: Forensics Department for further analysis.
An inquest document has been opened for the investigation but the police may have little to go on as there have been missing person reports for that area. Detectives are trying to establish the identity of the victim while forensic analysis is underway.
