Two poachers have been arrested in Kruger National Park, in the Stolznek section, after gunshots were heard. Rangers who went to investigate found a recently killed rhino and ‘immediately called for K9 and airwing support’, according to a post on SANParks’ Kruger National Park Facebook community page.
The two suspects were found in possession of a set of rhino horns and were carrying a high calibre hunting rifle, ammo and hunting equipment. The two were arrested and are being detained at Skukuza SAPS ahead of their court appearance.

The post also informed people of a young elephant bull that was shot and killed by rangers at the Bushman’s Trail Camp. According to SANparks the elephant had been terrorising the camp staff for some time and staff had previously managed to chase it off. However, on the day it was shot, it charged at staff endangering their lives and the ranger had no choice but to put it down. The park apologised to all guests that witnessed the incident.
