It has been reported that Mango Airlines will no longer have scheduled flights in and out of Lanseria Airport from the end of March 2020.
The entire Mango Airlines operation will be moved to OR Tambo Airport from 1 April onwards.
In January, Mango Airlines scrapped a relatively new route between Port Elizabeth International Airport to Lanseria Airport just six months after its launch.
Port Elizabeth residents expressed disappointment at the closure of the route. The route was also a major investment opportunity for the area. The Nelson Mandela Municipality had worked the Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber as well as the Easter Cape Development Centre and Mango to make the route possible.
The first flight landed in Port Elizabeth on 11 July 2019. With it’s establishment, Mango offered customers two daily PE flights for just R399.
According to Bay Economic Development Executive Director Anele Qaba, the municipality was search for alternatives as soon as the route was cancelled.
‘We are looking to fill up the capacity gap with at least four weekly flights to align with demand between the two airports,’ he said to TimesLIVE at the time.
‘For the city, the route is important as it provides seamless access to travellers originating from the northern part of greater Johannesburg and some parts of North West province.’
