Turkey is not going to let rule breakers go unpunished. The country has instated a fine of 900 lira (about R2,200) for locals and tourists who do not wear masks in public.

Turkey has imposed a hefty fine on locals and tourists who do not wear masks.

First time offenders will be warned, but those caught without a mask for a second time will be fined.

‘Wearing masks in public areas like squares, streets, parks, gardens, agricultural areas, public transport, and offices is compulsory as of June 3. Those who do not comply will be fined,’ Turkish government said in a statement, reports The Sun.

Turkey recently reopened its borders to tourists from selected countries within the Schengen area and is in talks over a travel corridor with the UK from July according to the Financial Times.

Turkey has over 189 000 confirmed cases and 4 974 deaths, according to IOL and are tightening rules to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.
