It’s summer in Europe and Lithuania is celebrating with their annual flower sculpture festival. Thousands of summer flowers are arranged on large sculptures to create an explosion of colour for festival-goers to enjoy in the sunshine.
The festival was inspired by A midsummer night’s dream, Shakespeare’s famous play and was launched in 2019 for the first time. It is held at the beautiful Pakruojis Manor and runs from the end of June to the beginning of October.
‘Last year a million flowers bloomed in the manor. We are happy with twice as much flower debt this year. There is no similar event in Lithuania or elsewhere,’ manager of the manor Vadim Ovčinko told World Today.
‘It is also gratifying that in June of this year, the flower carpet competition attracted twice as many participants as last year. The festival attracted florists and artists from all over Lithuania, because it is a great place for self-expression.’
Local actors also showcase their work through Shakespearian plays that can be viewed during the festival.
‘[Apart from Shakespeare] our work is also inspired by the historical environment of the manor and the great Lithuanian summer,’ Adrian Schvarzstein, one of the theatre directors involved in the entertainment at the festival told World Today.
