Grootbos Private Nature Reserve in the Western Cape welcomed a pod of seasonal visitors on Wednesday [July 30] and shared the exciting news in a spectacular video. The video shows a number of Southern right whales leaping out the water.
‘The eager Southern Right Whale males announce their arrival with gigantic leaps out of the water to impress any female whales nearby,’ said Grootbos on Instagram.
The video also showcases scenes of the incredible surroundings of the 5-star lodge. Watch below:
Grootbos offers many ways for guests to marvel over these magnificent mammals. Their land-based whale watching is a feast for the eyes. A guide will take guests along the cliffs and paths of De Kelders where guests can hear the whales slap their tails on the water, breach and spy-hop metres away from the shore.
Spy-hopping is where cetaceans will pop their heads out the water, to get a better perspective of their surroundings.
