A rare blue lobster was discovered by an employee of a seafood restaurant called ‘The Red Lobster’ in the US. The lobster was seen in a shipment delivered to one of the group’s restaurants in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, reports the Matador Network.
The restaurant contacted the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which in turn referred them to the Akron Zoo, to whom the lobster was donated.
‘The connection between the Akron Zoo and Red Lobster came from a conservation partnership called Seafood Watch,’ the zoo posted on Facebook. ‘The program, run by the Monterey Bay Aquarium, strives to help consumers and businesses choose seafood that is farmed sustainably and fished in ways to support a healthy ocean. Both the Akron Zoo and Red Lobster are conservation partners with Seafood Watch.’

According to the zoo, the blue shell is due to a rare genetic variation that only occurs to about one in 2 million lobsters.
The lobster, originally thought to be a male, was named Clawde. After it was discovered to in fact be a female, she was renamed Clawdia.

Clawdia will prepare for her annual molting season soon, and will be well looked after by the zoo.
