Following the announcement published by the Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy on July 30, all national botanical gardens are set to open to the public on Monday, August 3.
However, the gardens will be open solely for the purpose of exercise, subject to health protocols. While using the gardens, patrons are requested to comply with COVID-19 alert Level 3 regulations including the compulsory wearing of masks, frequent hand washing or sanitization, and maintaining social distance.
‘The welfare of our visitors and staff is of paramount importance to us, and we therefore urge our patrons to follow the prescribed COVID-19 regulations currently applicable under advanced Level 3,’ say Ms Carmel Mbizvo, Acting Chief Executive Officer.
Certain activities will be prohibited at the gardens and these include picnicking, braaiing, and gathering in social groups. Members of the public are invited to come and exercise using the numerous scenic paths and trails that are available in each garden and to enjoy the fresh air and open spaces that the gardens offer.
‘In line with Level 3 regulations, Kirstenbosch has implemented strict health protocols. We encourage everyone to work together to keep Kirstenbosch open,’ the Gardens said in a statement.
Kirstenbosch Garden and associated Estate will enforce the following:
• Screening and contact tracing will be done upon entry
• The wearing of masks in public is mandatory, no mask, no entry
• Visitors will be expected to wear masks at all times in Kirstenbosch
• Picnicking and gathering in social groups are not allowed
• Physical distancing measures will be strictly enforced
• The use of kiddies jungle gym is prohibited
• Limitations of visitor numbers may be imposed
The Kirstenbosch Tea Room, Moyo Kirstenbosch Restaurant, Garden Centre, Bookshops and Giftshops are open. The layouts have changed to reduce the number of customers, and all patrons are required to wear masks, except while eating and drinking.
Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden will be open every day from 08h00-18h00. To reduce contact, book and pay tickets online at Webtickets.
