Family forced from plane over 2-year-old’s refusal to wear mask

A mother and her six children were banned from a JetBlue flight from Orlando to New York after her two-year-old daughter would not keep her mask on.

Chaya Bruck told NBC New York that cabin crew asked her to secure her daughter’s mask, but her daughter kept pulling it off. ‘A few minutes later, they came to me and they told me that I have to gather my things and I have to get off the plane. They were horribly nasty, my kids were crying. Really traumatising,’ said Bruck.

According to The Independent, when Bruck had booked their tickets the airline’s website stated that ‘small children who cannot maintain a face covering are exempt.’ After their booking was made, however the airline changed its policy to say that all passengers must wear masks.

A spokesperson for JetBlue told The Independent: ‘During these unprecedented times, our first priority is to keep crew members and customers safe, and we’ve quickly introduced new safety policies and procedures throughout the pandemic.’

On a video shared to social media, the incident can be seen escalating. Voices are raised and other passengers can be heard in defense of Bruck.
