Namibia will reopen its borders to welcome international tourism on September 1 as a ‘targeted initiative for leisure travellers that will be reviewed bi-weekly and amended as necessary,’ Government announced.
‘As from 1 September 2020, Namibia re-opens the Hosea Kutako International Airport to international tourists,’ Environment Minister Pohamba Shifeta said.
All inbound tourists will have to provide a COVID-19-negative test no longer than 72 hours before arrival and will be required to spend their first seven days in one place, according to EWN.
Interestingly, residents are still banned from travel between cities and towns but international tourists will be exempt from this restriction.
Namibia has recorded a total of 6,431 confirmed coronavirus cases; 2,734 recoveries and 59 deaths as of Thursday, August 27.
