Seven lions have been killed by authorities after they managed to escape from the Karoo National Park twice in 24 hours.
On Monday, September 28, three lions escaped and killed 10 sheep in the community outside of Beaufort-West. SANParks rangers were activated and managed to get them safely back inside the Park, however, the lions broke out yet again during that night.
As the mountainous terrain prevented rangers from reaching the lions on foot, a helicopter was brought in and the decision was made to put down the whole pride of seven as they were considered a potential threat to human life.
SANParks says it stands by the decision to put down the two males and three females to avoid human-wildlife conflict.
