The World Economic Forum, in collaboration with non-profit public trust The Commons Project, are looking to create a quick, reliable and safe way for travellers to showcase their health status when travelling abroad called the ‘CommonPass’.
The CommonPass will provide travellers looking to cross boarders with a framework in which they can easily access any vaccination records or lab results, which can then be used to confirm they are indeed fit to travel. Any personal underlying health conditions will not be displayed through the new system.
According to the World Economic Forum, the CommonPass works line with protocols and guidelines from international organisations and standards bodies in the aviation and health sectors. ‘CommonPass allows individuals to securely document their COVID-19 status electronically and present it when they board a plane or cross a border,’ explains the WEF website.
Travellers will be able to access their lab results and vaccination records through existing health data systems, national or local registries or personal digital health records, including Apple Health for iOS, CommonHealth for Android.
‘As we come to grips with living with COVID-19, testing is the safest scientific method to reopen countries and borders. However, as each country looks to find the right solution to protect their citizens, we know that the ability to demonstrate the validity of testing done upon arrival or before departure is key to reopening borders,’ said David Evans, Joint CEO, Collinson.
To create the framework for this pass, 350 public and private sector leaders from 52 countries together to design collaborative plan for safer border re-openings.
