Baros Maldives, an idyllic Island resort in the Maldives has commemorated healthcare workers risking their lives during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The resort created a special coral reef that spells out the words ‘Thank you Heros’.
Resident marine biologists used the downtime during the COVID-19 pandemic to collect fragments of living coral from the sea bed that had broken off the reefs surrounding the island.
The ultimate goal to create an everlasting lasting message in the resort’s lagoon.
This is not the first time Baros has taken a step into the world of coral conservation and regeneration.
Since 2009, the resort has managed to save enough coral to regenerate hundreds of reefs and created new habitats for sea life, according to a statement by the resort.
Despite the fact that the coral is less than a year old, the message can already be clearly seen from above, and best of all, because coral tends to grow indefinitely, the message could survive much longer than the resort itself.
‘In spite of the unprecedented times the world has faced, Baros aims to keep the positive consequences of the pandemic – of compassion, unity and kindness, remembered by this tribute,’ said Baros resort manager, Ibrahim Shijah.
The coral tribute can be viewed from the resort’s Lighthouse Restaurant since Baros re-opened to guests on October 1.
In addition to the ever lasting message, the resort also has a special offer for health care workers in which they receive complimentary Champagne, massages, and dinners on the beach through to December 22, 2021.
