The NSRI issued a warning to bathers, surfers and paddlers in Cape St Francis and St Francis Bay area to be cautious after a shark was spotted on Friday, October 30.
‘A shark has been spotted swimming close to surfers at Cape St Francis main beach. We are appealing to bathers, surfers and paddlers to be cautious,’ said Craig Lambinon, NSRI spokesperson.
Those along the coast from Tsitsikamma to Port Elizabeth are also cautioned to keep out of the water.
The area is known for its resident great white sharks.
The NSRI also reminded South Africans about the availability of life buoys across the country.
‘The Pink Buoy initiative has saved countless lives. If you ever see someone in danger of drowning, think pink. You will find our pink buoys on strategically placed signs near bodies of water across South Africa,’ the NSRI said on Facebook. ‘Anyone can save a life with a pink buoy. Pink is for buoys.’
