New airport to be launched in Cape Winelands

South African investor and business magnate Rob Hersov has bought the Fisantekraal Airport in the Western Cape and plans to launch it as a full-fledged commercial airport soon.

Hersov renamed the facility Cape Winelands Airport after he bought it from an unidentified private owner together with business partner Nick Ferguson in 2020, according to MyBroadband.

The airport, which was built by the South African Air Force in the 1940s is now used for training, private aircraft storage and has also been featured in films.

Hersov referred to the Cape Winelands Airport as the ‘Lanseria of Cape Town’ in an interview with BizNews, saying he hopes to turn it into fierce competition for Cape Town International Airport.

The Cape Winelands Airport is situated 13 kilometres northeast of Durbanville, making it a convenient option for travellers living in the northern parts of the province.
