President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on Sunday night, June 27 regarding the third wave of COVID-19 in South Africa, and subsequent adjusted level 4 restrictions to help curb the spread of the virus.
The country will move back to adjusted Level 4 lockdown as of Monday, June 28 with several regulations in place, including that leisure travel in and out of Gauteng will be prohibited.
Alcohol sales are banned for both on-site and off-site consumption, and a curfew will be in place from 9pm to 4am daily. Restaurants and other hospitality-related industries will only be allowed to offer take away and deliveries. All indoor and outdoor gatherings are prohibited.
Beaches and parks remain open to the public.
Ramaphosa reiterated the importance of wearing masks when appearing in public.
These regulations will be in place for 14 days, from June 28 to July 11, after which the situation will be reassessed, Ramaphosa said.
