Events venue Ticketpro Dome in Johannesburg will close down, RX Venue Management has announced.
RX Management said that venue has been sold by the owners, the Sasol Pension Fund to auto sales business We Buy Cars.
‘This is another devasting blow for the exhibitions, events, and entertainment industry due to Covid-19. The ban on public gatherings has meant that during 2020 – and now 2021 – the Ticketpro Dome has been unable to operate,’ Ticketpro said on Twitter.
The venue hosted various top local and international musicians, art exhibitions and other renowned events like WWE over the years. The events and tourism industry is reeling from the effects of the past year’s lockdown restrictions and has seen the closing of countless businesses as a result.
Carol Weaving, MD of RX Africa, added: ‘This is extremely disappointing and heartbreaking for our industry. The Ticketpro Dome has been home to many international concerts and events in South Africa, and this will undoubtedly leave a huge void’.
