Canada is the latest country to open its borders to fully vaccinated travellers from all countries. Everyone entering the country must travel with a physical copy of their vaccination certificate and negative Covid rest results.
However, children between the ages of 12 and 17 also have to be vaccinated to enter the country without quarantine, Canadian government announced. South Africans under the age of 18 are not eligible to get vaccinated yet, meaning teens entering Canada will have to quarantine for 14 days.
Unvaccinated children under 12-years-old are not required to quarantine, but are not allowed to attend school for 14 days.
Only the following vaccines are approved by Canadian authorities:
- Pfizer-BioNTech (Comirnaty, tozinameran, BNT162b2)
- Moderna (mRNA-1273)
- AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD (ChAdOx1-S, Vaxzevria, AZD1222)
- Janssen/Johnson & Johnson (Ad26.COV2.S)
Other countries that have also recently opened their borders to vaccinated South Africans are the United Arab Emirates, France, Spain, and Switzerland. Earlier, Austria and Germany also opened their borders.
