Nine African wild dog pups born in Malawi’s Liwonde National Park

African Parks collaborated with The Endangered Wildlife Trust and DNPW Malawi to translocate 14 African wild dogs from South Africa to Liwonde National Park and Majete Wildlife Reserve in Malawi.

Eight of the wild dogs – five males, three females – went to Liwonde National Park and have been monitored over the last couple of months. Six weeks after the pack arrived, a litter of nine pups were born. The pups are now four months old, healthy and well-adjusted. The pack was observed to frequently move den sites.

HAVE A LOOK

This litter is thought to be the firstborn in the country after many years. With approximately only 6,600 African wild dogs left on the continent, this litter comes as great news.

African Parks is a non-profit organisation for rehabilitation and long-term management of national parks. They are partnered with local communities and the government.
