Ranger Michael Mavunga fell from his horse while on anti-poaching patrol in Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe, where he works for the Park’s Conservation & Wildlife Fund (CWF).
‘He suffered significant injuries to his neck and spine. A trained colleague made a backboard to move Mike, who was then medivaced for surgery, thanks to Game Rangers Association of Africa (GRAA)’, the Elite AntiPoaching Units And Combat Trackers posted on Facebook.
‘Mike is an accomplished mounted ranger and K-9 handler. Post-surgery, Ranger Mike has remained in ICU, where his medical expenses are in excess of US$10,000. Mike will need ongoing medical care and support.’
The Elite AntiPoaching Unit is partnering with GRAA and CWF to raise funds for Ranger Mike to pay medical expenses that will not be covered by insurance.
