The Maldives briefly closed its borders to several countries on 27 November 2021, but has reopened for tourists again on 29 December.
Tourists from southern Africa will not be required to quarantine and no vaccination is required, Immigration Maldives said in a statement. Children below the age of one year are exempted. Negative PCR test results no older than 96 hours are required upon arrival.
Countries allowed to enter again in addition to South Africa are Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and eSwatini.
Recently, other countries like the United States and Germany lifted all restrictions on southern African countries.
Meanwhile, Mauritius will remain closed to South Africans. National airline Air Mauritius said the ban will last until at least the end of January, according to TravelNews.
Qatar Airways also confirmed it will extend the ban on South Africans, and flights from Luanda, Maputo, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Lusaka and Harare will not be permitted until 12 January 2022.
