Thailand officially welcomed South African travellers back into its Sandbox programme on January 11.

Thailand's tourism industry is crumbling

To enter Thailand, South African travellers must apply for the Thailand Pass under the Sandbox programme or the Happy Quarantine programme, according to Travel News.

Chiravadee Khunsub – Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand – commented on this: ‘We are excited to start the year on this positive note and really look forward to welcoming South Africans now, over what are the best summer months in the country.’

In addition to Phuket, Thailand’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has reopened another three Sandbox destinations to international arrivals: Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani (only Ko Samui, Ko Pha-ngan, and Ko Tao).

Travellers can select in which destination under the Sandbox programme they wish to complete their mandatory seven-day quarantine.
