The Blue Flag has been raised at Onrus Beach and all warning signs have been removed.
The flag was temporarily removed recently and warning signs were erected following a spillage incident at the Onrus main sewerage pump station, allowing the spillage to leak into the Onrus Estuary.
Samples were taken the very same day for testing, and results came back clear on January 7, according to IOL.
Wessa – the Wildlife and Environment Society of South Africa – received the results and instructed the Onrus municipality to raise the flag again, and remove all warning signs, indicating that the water is safe for public usage.
The Blue Flag is a highly coveted award, symbolising high standards of water quality, environmental management, environmental education and safety.
