The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow level two weather warning for the following areas: Bergrivier, Bitou, Cape Agulhas, Cederberg, Cape Town, George, Hessequa, Kamiesberg, Knysna, Matzikama, Mossel Bay, Nama Khoi, Overstrand, Richtersveld, Saldanha Bay, Swartland, and Table Bay.
The warning is issued for damaging waves, valid from January 17 until January 20. These conditions can lead to difficulty in navigation at sea, particularly in the areas between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay.
Small vessels and personal watercraft are at risk of capsizing under these conditions. Small harbours or ports are at risk for localised disruptions, and localised damage to coastal infrastructure can also be expected. Beachfront activities may be halted.
Small vessels are advised to seek shelter at either inlets, bays, or harbours.
