Five South African cities have been named on the Tourism Sentiment Index’s (TSI) list of ‘Leading Places: 100 Most Loved Destinations in the World’ for 2021.
The Index conducted an intensive data study that analysed over 1.6 billion online conversations and 1,330 global destinations.
Ranking highest was Knysna at number 19, followed by Stellenbosch at number 23. Hermanus placed at number 41 and Cape Town at number 54. Pretoria made it to number 73.
‘These Leading Places are the 100 most loved destinations in 2021 according to what people really feel,’ TSI said. ‘No one has paid to be named. No surveys have suggested an answer. Word of mouth built this list, unprompted and unbiased.’
David Maynier, Western Cape Provincial Minister of Finance and Economic Opportunities commented: ‘The last two years will go down in history as the most challenging years thus far for the global tourism sector, and the rankings demonstrate that Cape Town and the Western Cape is a world-class destination and a firm favourite on the global travel bucket list.’
Scoring the winning spots on the list were Udaipur in India at number three, Whitsundays in Australia at number two and the number one most loved destination in the world is Australia’s Sunshine Coast.
