The 2022 Power Series presented by Wingfield Motors at Killarney roars into action on Saturday 12 February with a full programme of races – and we’re revving up the fun factor for the whole family!
There’s ample parking all around the circuit, so bring your beach umbrella or gazebo, bring your picnic basket and your cooler box, light up your skottel braai or park next to one of our brick braais – which are cleverly located at some of the best view spots around the racetrack! – and make the day your own.
And if you don’t want to take time away from the action to feed the family, there are a number of outlets around the facility serving hot snacks and ice-cold beverages – as well as children’s play areas where the youngsters can burn off their excess energy, including the famous Kiddies’ Korner, the coolest party zone on the West Coast, which is available for hire year-round; on Race Day your kids get to use it absolutely free!
You get all of this, plus a whole day of world-class motor racing on two and four wheels, for R80 for adults, R20 for scholars, under 16 and free for children under 12; Western Province Motor Club members also get in free.
Proof of vaccination for spectators at sports events is no longer a government requirement – all you have to do is pre-book your tickets via Computicket or pay at the gate and follow the ring road to your favourite viewing spot – or one of our shaded grandstands.
You don’t have to stay in one spot, either; spectators are free to move around and watch the action from different vantage points throughout the day, and the pits are always open to spectators, so you can see the cars and motorcycles up close.
Just remember to wear your mask at all times; Killarney’s wide-open spaces mean that observing social distancing is never an issue.
You can expect big fields for the headline Clubmans Saloons, as well as the Alert Engines GTi Challenge and BEJO Trustees Fine Cars Races. Then there’s the new Thunder Saloons class, an anything-goes category that’s all about big, nasty engines in wildly-modified saloon car bodies, which has proved to be just as big a hit with the fans as it is with the competitors.
The one-make V8 Masters and Makita Formula Supercars, where all the cars are identical and it’s all down to driver skill and nerve, always deliver close racing, while for purists there are races for Sports & GT cars and Formula Libre single-seaters
The two-wheeled heroes of the South Superbikes/Superbike Challenge/Masters/600s, the Strato Technology Clubman/Classic/Breakfast Run Motorcycles and the Bridgestone Super Twin Cup 650 and SuperSport 300 Motorcycles provide some of the closest, most exciting racing to be seen anywhere in the world.
There’s action-packed racing to suit everybody at the home of motorsport in the Western Cape, kicking off with Qualifying at 8:00 am.
