The Plant Powered Show is the first of its kind in South Africa – a whole show focusing on plant-based, vegetarian, vegan and conscious living.
It’s on at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 27-29 May; there is also a virtual event for those not in the Mother City.

Vegan demos and masterclasses
There’s plenty going on over the three days: professional chefs, celebrity cooks and rising stars; live cooking demonstrations; talks by health and wellness experts; masterclasses; and a marketplace of hundreds of vegan and plant-based food, drink and lifestyle brands and products to test, sample and buy.
MasterChef South Africa judge Zola Nene – who won the Best in the World Award at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards for her second cookbook, Simply Zola – is giving cooking demonstrations at the Checkers Plant Kitchen on Saturday, 28 May at 3pm and Sunday, 29 May at 2pm.
And speaking of MasterChef SA, contestants Andriëtte de la Harpe and Tarryn de Kock are demonstrating how to make De la Harpe’s MasterChef SA finals dish of butternut steak with asparagus, red pepper sauce, ricotta and smoked chimichurri as well as a croquette made with mushroom duxelles and chick*n fillets.

Plant-based mains and desserts
Among the many cooking demonstrations – they take place hourly – De la Harpe shows you how to make Completely Vegan Malva Pudding, and Phil Mansergh from The Kelp Shack shows you how to make Kelp Ravioli.
And there is a Vegan & Meet programme where visitors can meet their favourite chefs and get books signed; pop up restaurants; food trucks; chill out areas and a yoga zone.

The Plant Powered Show is at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town:
Friday, 27 May, 2pm – 8pm
Saturday, 28 May, 10am – 8pm
Sunday, 29 May, 10am – 5pm
Tickets are available at Quicket or at the door, and cost R250pp for adults, R200pp for students and seniors over 60+ (valid ID required on entry).
Online tickets are R120.
Tickets for the masterclasses cost R145 – there are 18 to choose from and you can select as many as you like (valid with a General Admission ticket on the day).
