Just two and a half hours from Durban, mFulaWozi Wilderness Private Game Reserve stretches across 16 000ha of Zululand bushveld, 6 000ha of which has already been incorporated into the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Park, the oldest proclaimed nature reserve in Africa.
With the dropping of fences between the parks, it is now one of the last havens for large numbers of animals that can roam freely. The reserve offers thrilling game drives, birding, guided walks and trails, as well as excellent photographic opportunities as the ultimate safari escape.
The mFulaWozi Wilderness Private Game Reserve is home to two lodges, Biyela and family-friendly Mthembu. Both lodges are operated off the grid with solar power. This unique wilderness area embodies the spirit of the Zulu nation and unlocks the tourist appeal of the rich culture, history and biodiversity of the land.
mFulaWozi is not just about magnificent game viewing, delectable cuisine and stunning decor, but also about a journey of purpose. It offers a unique combination and insight into Zulu history and culture, as well as wilderness and wildlife, allowing guests to connect with 500 years of history.
An inviting and exclusive destination for couples, Biyela Lodge consists of 12 luxury stand-alone suites, each with a private plunge pool. The lodge is built into the hillside to maximise the sweeping views of the floodplains of the White uMfolozi River below. Built by hand by members of the local Mthembu and Biyela Zulu clans, all suites come with their own private viewing deck where guests can immerse themselves in nature and the rich history of the area.
