Climbers who take on Mount Kilimanjaro can now post their selfies live from the mountain after government installed high-speed internet on its slopes.
The broadband network was installed on 16 August at an altitude of 3,720m and Tanzania’s Minister of Information, Nape Nnauye, called the event ‘historic’, reports The Guardian. ‘Previously, it was a bit dangerous for visitors and porters who had to operate without internet,’ Nnauye said.
He also said there are plans to expand the internet range all the way to the summit by the end of the year.
Some climbers are against bringing the internet to the mountain, while others say it is a valid safety measure.
