South African Airways (SAA) is in conversation with British Airways (BA) to take over the franchise agreement it had with Comair before the company got liquidated.
Comair had a long-standing agreement with BA to provide domestic and regional flights under its brand in South Africa. Comair accounted for nearly 40% of South Africa’s domestic market.
SAA’s interim chair, John Lamola, confirmed SAA’s interest in the franchise agreement to Fin24. Lamola also revealed that the regulatory process for Takatso Consortium’s purchase of SAA is still underway and that it is not yet involved in the running of the airline.
