The FAA said that it has ‘determined that contract personnel unintentionally deleted files while working’ on their database. They have ‘found no evidence of a cyber-attack or malicious intent,’ however, they are ‘continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the outage.’
The BBC reported that ‘Washington DC lawmakers wrote to the FAA to say that the outage was completely unacceptable and demanding to know how it would be avoided in the future.’
The FAA ‘made the necessary repairs to the system and has taken steps to make (their) system more resilient.’ They plan to hold a virtual meeting on Friday, 20 January, with the lawmakers to discuss their concerns.
