A man fell to his death from a viewing point along Chapman’s Peak on Sunday, 30 January.
Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) shared on their Facebook page that the man, ‘believed to be in his 40s, fell at least 20 m down the sheer mountainside.’
A team of rescue workers from WSAR mobilised and arrived on the scene after receiving the emergency call-out. They ‘set up ropes and abseiled down to the patient’s location and found that he had not survived the fall.’
South African Police Services and WSAR worked together to move the body onto a stretcher and back up the cliff, using a technical hauling system that they set up.
WSAR is currently running a safety campaign to raise awareness for #IamWildernessSafe. Should you need their assistance you can contact them on 021 937 0300.
