Jonathan Denga, director of Biodiversity Management and Conservation for North West Department of Economic Development, Environmental Conservation and Tourism, told omny.fm that they thought they had discovered the lion’s footprints in the bush around Stella. However, these turned out to be brown hyena tracks.
News24 reports that ‘Nature Conservation spokesperson, Jerry Matebesi said they were working with the police to find the lion. Matebesi said that the rescue mission, involving a chopper, has since started following the escape.’
Denga has assured the public that a vet will sedate the lion once found.
