An avalanche at the Armancette glacier southwest of Mont Blanc in the French Alps has caused the death of four people and injured nine others, the country’s interior minister Gerald Darmanin has said.
The tragedy unfolded in the middle of the day and it’s thought the victims were among a group of backcountry skiiers. Local authorities are still confirming the identity of the victims.
According to Emmanuel Coquand, spokesperson for the local authorities of Haute-Savoie, the avalanche was massive, covering an area of 1km by 500m at an altitude of 3 500.
