A 28-year-old chimpanzee Vanilla stepped outside of her cage for the first time.
Vanilla was one of the chimpanzees from the New York-based Laboratory for Experimental Medicine and Surgery in Primates (LEMSIP) and has spent her whole life in enclosures and cages.
The video shows Vanilla stepping out into the sunshine and staring up at the sky for the first time. According to the BBC, her sister, Shake, and her ‘have a new island home at Save the Chimps in Fort Pierce, Florida.’
