The eagerly awaited flight, set to take off from Johannesburg on April 28, 2024, has witnessed a surge in seat bookings, particularly in the economy class. Ms. Sthembiso Dlamini, CEO of Gauteng Tourism Authority, expressed excitement about the recommencement of this route after a three-year hiatus. She emphasized its role in facilitating seamless travel for both leisure and business travelers, while also fostering trade and cultural exchange between South Africa and Australia.

This initiative marks the second interoceanic route to be reopened, following the launch of the Sao Paulo, Brazil route in October 2023. It offers an alternative travel itinerary for those journeying to South America, with flights available to Sao Paulo from either Johannesburg or Cape Town with South African Airways.

The revival of the Johannesburg to Perth direct route signifies more than mere air travel; it symbolizes the connection between two cities and the bridging of diverse cultures and experiences. For Australian travelers, it opens doors to the rich tapestry of experiences that Gauteng offers – from its dynamic urban lifestyle to its breathtaking natural landscapes. It’s an invitation to explore the #GPLifestyle – a unique fusion of adventure, culture, and gastronomy that the province is renowned for.

Embark on a journey to mankind’s roots with a visit to Mrs. Pless at the Cradle of Humankind, where you can explore the caves that once sheltered early humans. Dive into the vibrant spirit of Soweto, the hometown of two South African World leaders, Nelson Mandela and Bishop Desmond Tutu. Immerse yourself in the local cuisine, meet the friendly locals, and absorb the infectious vibe of the city.

Adventure enthusiasts will find plenty to thrill them, from bungee jumping to kayaking, mountain climbing to cycling. Gauteng’s scenic beauty extends beyond its urban landscape, with parks, wildlife experiences, and nature reserves waiting to be explored. The Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden stands out as one of the world’s most beautiful botanical gardens, while game reserves offer unforgettable Big 5 safari experiences.

In just a 10-hour flight, travelers can immerse themselves in a vibrant new world, ticking off bucket-list experiences and listening to the enchanting sounds of the bushveld under clear night skies.

Flights from Perth (SA 281) are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, departing at 14:40 and arriving the same day at 19:35 in Johannesburg.
