Get ready for the thrill of the 2024 Knysna Oyster Festival, presented by Food Lover’s Market (21 – 30 June), with its exciting programme of spectacular trail runs, challenging bike races, canoe races, street soccer, martial arts and more! This year, the organisers have unveiled an electrifying lineup of sporting events that promises to captivate athletes, thrill-seekers, and spectators.
Knysna Forest Marathon
Kickstarting the festivities, the iconic Knysna Forest Marathon and Half Marathon take the lead on 22 June, offering an unparalleled running experience amidst the breathtaking landscapes of the Knysna Forest. From scenic views of the estuary to the majestic Knysna Heads, every step of the way is an adventure, beginning with the early morning start deep in the forest.
This year the Knysna Marathon Club has also introduced a 5 km Fun Run which will start and finish at the Knysna High School Sport Field.
Houtkapper Trail Run
On 23 June, trailblazers can embark on a journey through nature’s playground with the Houtkapper Trail Run. With routes of varying lengths (9, 15 and 27 km) and difficulty levels, participants will navigate through the lush forest trails, soaking in the splendour of Krisjan-se-Nek and the inspirational Daleen Matthee Big Tree along the way.
The Amazing Race – Knysna Style: Teams of two will compete for fantastic prizes on a scenic route that includes some iconic sites and venues. This fun race on 26 June will require a combination of skills including speed, agility, strength, strategy, courage and endurance! Start and finish at the Castle Lite Beer Tent, Oyster Festival Hub.
Oyster Festival Street Soccer Tournament
Get ready to witness the pulse-pounding action of the Oyster Festival Street Soccer Tournament on 26 June. With community participation at its core, this tournament aims to foster soccer development while delivering non-stop excitement through exhilarating five-a-side matches.
KnysnaX Trail Series Winter Run
On 27 June adventurers will converge for the KnysnaX Trail Series Winter Run. Featuring three thrilling distances (19 km and 25 km from Blackwaters River Lodge or 6 km from the Belvidere railway track) and scenic routes that include spectacular bridge crossings and breathtaking vistas along the Knysna Railway, this event promises an unforgettable experience for all participants.
Simola Sunset Wine Run
Wine enthusiasts and fitness fanatics will unite for the Simola Sunset Wine Run on 27 June. Combining the beauty of the Simola Golf Course with the indulgence of great wine, this event is an unusual celebration of fun and fitness!
Oyster Betterball Championship
Swing into action on 28 June at the Knysna Golf Club for the Oyster Betterball Championship. With a shotgun start at 11 am, golfers are invited to showcase their skills and compete for glory on the greens.
Knysna Cycle Tour
Prepare for two exhilarating days of cycling spectacle at the Knysna Cycle Tour on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 June. On Saturday, riders will tackle the rugged terrains of the 75 km, 50 km, and 30 km MTB races, setting off in groups from 8 am at the base of Simola Hill. Spectators are welcome and all routes will finish at the festival hub located at the Knysna High sports field.
On Sunday, cyclists will embark on the 100 km and 50 km Road Races, commencing from the sports field and heading towards the picturesque town of Sedgefield. The 100 km route features a challenging trek to Wilderness and back, including the renowned Serpentine Climb, while the 50 km ride offers an undulating path ideal for beginners and seasoned riders alike.
All cyclists, whether on MTBs, road bikes, e-bikes, or gravel bikes, are invited to revel in the thrill of the Knysna Cycle Tour, which promises a weekend of camaraderie, competition, and unforgettable adventures on two wheels.
Titan Fight Night
Experience the intensity of mixed martial arts at the Titan Fight Night on 29 June. With weigh-ins at 2 pm and fights kicking off at 4 pm, prepare for an evening of jaw-dropping action and adrenaline-fueled excitement.
Choo-Tjoe Ultra Trail Run
Conquer new horizons with the Choo-Tjoe Ultra Trail Run on 30 June, with either a 67 km run from the historic railway station in Wilderness, or a 34 km trail from Sedgefield Station to the Oyster Festival Hub. Brace yourself for a test of endurance through the scenic landscapes of the Garden Route as you follow the nostalgic Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe steam train railway route for a challenge with a difference. Limited pre-entries only.
Harbour 2 Heads Lagoon Challenge
Take to the waters for the Harbour 2 Heads Lagoon Challenge on 30 June. Whether you’re a junior or senior paddler, this canoe race offers an exhilarating adventure across the lagoon, starting and finishing at the Knysna Yacht Club.
