Located on the eastern foot of South Africa’s popular Table Mountain, the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden boasts striking natural beauty. It is home to over 7 000 plant species, 2 500 of which are from the Cape Peninsula. When visiting the garden, you can expect an incredible display of natural beauty, as well as treasured indigenous species such as fynbos. The garden is a delight for picnickers, floral enthusiasts and nature lovers alike.

The Mauritius National Botanical Garden is nothing short of a lush paradise. Formally known as the Sir Seewoosagur Botanic Garden, it is one of the world’s oldest botanical gardens.

It has a history which dates back almost 300 years and is populated with more than 650 varieties of plants. Moreover, one can look forward to seeing 85 different varieties of palm trees brought from different corners of the world.

Aburi Botanic Garden, Ghana

The Aburi Botanic Garden is one of Ghana’s most stunning and peaceful attractions. It is located just outside Accra and offers a mixture of indigenous and exotic trees. The garden also boasts an impressive array of bird and butterfly species.

Additionally, Aburi plays an important role in encouraging cocoa production in Ghana’s southern region through its involvement in scientific farming methods. It is also the ideal place for picnics, nature walks and even wedding pictures.

The magnificent Walter Sisulu Botanical Garden is one of the best places to immerse yourself in nature when in bustling Johannesburg. Established in 1982, the garden offers 300 hectares of lushness, vitality and serenity.

Over 600 plant species form a backdrop of various hiking trails. There are also 220 bird species, as well as reptiles and some other small mammals. A visit to the garden comes with the exciting chance to spot some honey badgers, hedgehogs or even some Verreaux’s eagles nesting in the cliffs near the waterfall.

Aswan Botanical Garden, Egypt

Also known as Kitchener’s Island, the world-class Aswan Botanical Garden is a great leisure spot for families and nature lovers. Additionally, it serves as an important centre of botanical research in Egypt.

It is home to many rare and exotic plants, including the Sabal palm tree. There is also an impressive abundance of birdlife. To help you reach the garden, there are public ferries which travel to and from the island.
