Hartbeespoort, or ‘Harties’, as frequent visitors call it, is tucked between the slopes of the Megaliesberg mountain and Hartbeespoort Dam. It’s a quaint little town that offers city slickers in Joburg a taste of the outdoors, less than an hour away. You’re not visiting here to lap up five-star luxury at every turn, you’re here to catch a relaxing bush break that doesn’t require planes, trains or two-hour transfers.
With help from Daddy’s Deals, we’ve planned your next wid-week adventure to Harties with your partner or best bud, for under R3000. This includes your stay, activities, and a spa package for two, for spoils.
Day 1 in Harties
You’ve arrived in Harties, the short trip from Johannesburg was surprisingly scenic.
Your first order of business will be to check in at your digs for the night, Magalies Mountain Lodge.
They’re offering a great bargain via Daddy’s Deals on a midweek stay for two, which includes a 25-minute back and neck massage and a 30-minute hot tub session, plus a full English breakfast tomorrow morning to fuel up before the adventure leg of your quick getaway.
It’s all about winding down right now. You’ll enjoy your couple’s spa treatment and pop out to one of the local restaurants for dinner. Silver Orange Bistro is based at a working orange farm – the food here is exceptional and offers a unique slice of country just outside of the city.

Accommodation and spa treatments: R1099.00 for two.
Dinner: R600.00-R800.00 for two.
Day 2 in Harties
You’re up and ready to tackle a day of adrenaline after a full English breakfast and checkout. You’re headed to Adventure Freaks in Chameleon Village for a go-karting session, paintball and a few laps on a drift trike – not your usual mid-week adventure, for sure.
If you’ve still got energy left in the tank, take a ten-minute drive through to Van Gaalen cheese farm. Your reservation at their Terrace restaurant – which you made sure to book at least 24 hours before arriving – will lead you to a glorious meat and cheese platter, a well-deserved bounty after your day of thrills.

If you’re interested in the available activities on the cheese farm, plan your midweek visit accordingly. Pop over to the farm before you set out for your adventure day package. Van Gaalen puts on a fabulous cheese tour R168.00 pp at 10:00 AM on Wednesday mornings. The tour includes cheese tastings, and a devilish slice of Dutch apple cake.
There are also a number of hiking, trail running and mountain-biking trails worth checking out at Van Gaalen if paintball and go-karting aren’t on the cards for you.
Adventure package: R599.00 for two.
Cheese and Meat Platter at Terrace: R305.00 for two.
Van Gaalen cheese tour: R336.00 for two.
Trip total: +- R2939.00.
How’s that for a midweek spoil? Here’s all the motivation you need!
