National Geographic Wild has announced its lineup for this year’s SHARKFEST, kicking off on July 20 and running through August 28. The shark-centric programming will air on weekends at 18:00 CAT on DStv 182 and StarSat 221, and will also be available on Disney+.
Leading the lineup is “Shark Beach With Anthony Mackie: Gulf Coast,” featuring Marvel Studios’ star Anthony Mackie. The hour-long special, premiering on July 20, sees Mackie exploring the waters of his hometown, New Orleans, with scientists and local fishermen to address issues affecting fishermen’s livelihoods, local safety, and shark conservation.
Another highlight is “Shark Vs. Ross Edgley,” airing on August 24. In this special, ultra-athlete and shark advocate Ross Edgley takes on four formidable sharks to test his physical and mental limits.
The event will also include “Baby Sharks In The City,” which investigates a newly discovered great white shark nursery off the coast of New York City, and “Shark Attack 360,” which delves into the reasons behind shark attacks. Other notable programs include “Attack Of The Red Sea Shark,” examining a spike in deadly attacks in Egypt, and “Supersized Sharks,” featuring the world’s largest tiger sharks off the coast of Australia.
SHARKFEST aims to bring viewers closer to sharks and emphasize the importance of ocean conservation. Using cutting-edge technology and groundbreaking research, the programming offers insights into the behaviors and habitats of these ocean predators.
